Seth Flora’s plan for our roads

While out talking with residents I notice that just about every neighborhood has at least one area of road that needs repairs. I have requested a sit down with the Road Department to talk about these issues, I am yet to hear back.

Many folks are concerned about the cost of repairing our roads asking me if my plan is to raise property taxes to pay for it. My answer is — NO.

Our area and nation are dealing with higher prices even though wages for some jobs have increased many working families are still struggling to pay their bills. I do not see a property tax increase as a sustainable way to pay for our road projects since it will be more harmful to working families. Instead, I want to change the focus of the Road Department so the emphasis is on residential roads. I will be hands-on in the grant process to secure extra funds.

Seth’s four-year plan outline:

Year one:

Work closely with the Raod Department as we change course to tackle residential roads that are in the worst shape. Roads with large potholes and cracks will be addressed first.

Year two:

Tackle residential roads with large potholes and cracks that did not get repaired the previous year.

Year three:

Make repairs to residential roads with medium size potholes and cracks.

Year four:

Make repairs to residential roads with small potholes and cracks.

This plan is aggressive and bold because it has to be. When there are potholes the size of children in some neighborhoods it is past time to be aggressive in fixing the issue. I do not believe that I will be enough to get this plan through. If elected we will need people power to show the other Trustees that they not only have to answer to me but to 100s of folks who want their streets fixed at every meeting.
